Every game of chess needs a first move to begin with. This is what provides opening to strategy, focus and good decision-making. The 2nd edition of Dębica City Chess Championship 2026 was held precisely in this spirit, gathering on 4–5 July in Dębica lovers of the royal game from Poland and abroad.
The tournament was unique in that this year’s edition went international, hosting competitors not only from across Poland, but also from France, Canada and Tanzania. Over the two days, the Śnieżka Community Centre and Sokół Park were the spots of sporting excitement, concentration and competition, all marked with respect for the opponent. The players competed in four tournament groups, depending on their level of advancement. The highest skill pool was group A, which featured experienced players, including a grandmaster, international masters and a FIDE master. Young chess players and beginners also also started, competing for entry into upper categories and gaining valuable tournament experience.
Sporting competition was accompanied with refreshment and integration options, as the organizers provided a catering zone and a relaxation area. With this, the event turned also a family and integration event, besides its sporting character.
At LERG SA, we are satisfied to have been part of this event. We believe that sponsoring initiatives that grow passions and teach patience, strategic thinking, and perseverance is an investment in people and the local community.
Our congratulations go to all participants for their commitment and sportsmanship, to the winners for their results, and to the Dębica Municipal Chess Club GRYF for organizing an event that successfully integrates the local community of all ages. Each game played was proof of determination and passion for the royal game.
